There have been reports of a new scam with an email attachment reported to be a fake IRS CP2000 notice. These types of notices will only be mailed through the U.S. Postal Service from the IRS to your address of record. Be on your guard against fake emails and do not reply to or click on any links in these emails. You can forward the email to phishing@irs.gov to report it for their investigation and then delete it. The IRS does not ever call to demand payment over the phone nor would they call or email you to verify your identity. Please contact our office if you receive any type of notification that may be in question and we can help you determine what kind of action you should take if any.

The following is a link to the Ohio Society of CPA’s notification which has additional information in relation to this scam:  http://www.ohiocpa.com/utilities/displaynewsitem/2016/09/27/yet-another-scam-fake-aca-tax-bills
